What Our Clients Have to Say
We had been thinking about replacing our 30-year-old pressure-treated deck for several years and decided mid-pandemic to proceed. We tried working with the Big Box stores, but were less-than-impressed. One of the challenges we faced with the Big Box stores was finding advice on how to realize our vision. For instance, we wanted a privacy wall – but no one could give us creative ideas, or even tell us what was possible.
We discovered DuraContracting after seeing Brett and his team tackle a major decking/railing job in our neighbourhood. Brett’s focus on decks, and the experience and enthusiasm he brought to our initial meeting, made the decision easy. Duracontracting leans toward working with higher-end, better-quality products like Trex and Deckorators. We had done a lot of looking around, and found that the decking products Brett preferred had better ‘slip-resistance’, longer warranties, less expansion/contraction, and a wider array of colour choices. But that is just one reason we went with Duracontracting. Brett was incredibly patient with us as we worked together to decide on the best layout for our deck, going through several iterations of planning and making constructive suggestions along the way.
Once the ‘build’ was underway, Brett and his team worked efficiently and while there were a few supply-chain delays, he moved the project along as quickly as possible. In the middle of the old-deck tear-down, Brett discovered a major issue with our siding – one we had anticipated, having repaired the rest of the house a few years earlier everywhere there wasn’t ‘deck’ in the way. Brett advised us on how to proceed, gave us a quote, and folded this work into the overall project. I’m not sure what we would have done without his flexibility and problem-solving skills.
Brett’s attention to detail, and creativity were evident at every step of the way. We had decided on a two-colour ‘main deck/picture frame’ design, but Brett came to us mid-project to reintroduce an earlier suggestion that a third colour accent border would really make the deck ‘pop’. This suggestion meant more work for Brett (getting new deck boards in the third colour, and more intricate joinery) but he offered to do this at no extra charge – he just wanted the deck to be spectacular. I’m looking at the finished deck right now, as I write this review, and am so happy we listened to Brett.

Design Phase: Brett was awesome at demonstrating decking products and offering suggestions how best to design a suitable deck for our needs and within our budget. Communication was always quick, professional, and comprehensive.
Construction Phase: Dura Contracting has $100K of professional high quality deck building tools. This comment may sound funny, but we all have friends that use the incorrect tools, cutting corners, and the job ends up looking sloppy. With Brett, he takes the time to do it correctly, uses the correct tool, and the end product shows his workmanship - perfection. While building the deck, Brett offered ideas to improve the life of the deck, increase the living space on the deck, and way to save money. Brett and his workers maintained a positive and fun attitude the whole time.
Post-Construction Phase: Brett was amazing at demonstrating how to clean and care for our new deck - to extend its life and preserve the high quality. This last step is often overlooked by builders who just want to move onto their next project. Once the deck was built, Brett took the time with the home owner, pointing what cleaning products to use, and what products to keep away from our Trek decking. Brett also provided us with incredible high quality deck pictures at no extra costs - which we emailed to all our friends - to show off our gorgeous new deck.
I would use Dura Contracting again in an instant, and I offer my highest recommendation to anyone who is considering Brett’s services.

We recently had a Trex deck and concrete patio constructed by Dura Contracting and it was truly a pleasure to work with Brett. During the planning stage he was extremely creative and accommodating, taking our requirements and translating them into functional design concepts.
The quality of the project itself is unquestionably top notch, the attention to detail and small touches he uses really puts him above the rest. His team is extremely conscientious and were a pleasure to work with.
His innovative use of the Trex Transends product really makes the project stand out. His knowledgeable construction skill coupled with the quality Trex product makes this deck one that we’ll be happy to own for years and years. The tinted glass railings and LED lights really sets this deck apart.

Brett and his crew are great to work with. Everyone was very personable and professional. It was clear they had a good attention to detail and care about their quality of work. Our deck was completed in three visits and it is quite large and elevated ( 8 feet).Dura took care of the permits and arranging inspections. Brett Smith and his DURA Contracting team are exceptional. We met with several contractors about building a deck and Brett was by far the most capable in terms of envisioning the structure to fit our space, providing many options, and clearly communicating each possibility. He really has a gift for seeing what is possible -- not only with the deck itself, but with stylish concrete pads and elegant lighting, too. We appreciated that his quotes were thorough and accurate. Once we agreed to work with Brett, the process was smooth – from demolition and removal of our old deck through the final product of an entirely different space. Brett was professional throughout, clearly communicating what would be done... and when. His workmanship and attention to detail were outstanding. The building inspector was surprised, saying that the structure was above and beyond code and would last a very long time. There were no surprises on the final bill, though! Now we have a stunning deck and backyard space that adds greatly to the enjoyment of our home, as well as to its value. Thanks, Brett!
